Heritage Park, Surprise, Arizona?s Newest Recreation Facility, Opens at Marley Park

Heritage Park, Surprise, Arizona’s Newest Recreation Facility, Opens at Marley Park

Surprise, AZ (PRWEB) June 2, 2006

City of Surprise Arizona Mayor Joan Shafer and city council members were among the more than 1,500 area residents who turned out on Saturday afternoon to celebrate the grand opening of Heritage Park, a new 25-acre city of Surprise community park located in the Arizona housing development Marley Park.

The Marley Park Community Association and Marley Park Elementary PTA hosted the picnic-themed event, which included performing arts and musical entertainment at the park’s amphitheater, dog agility demonstrations and carnival games on the lawns, and sporting events played on the ball fields.

“Heritage Park is such a beautiful park. It’s a wonderful addition to Marley Park and all of Surprise,” said Surprise Mayor Joan Shafer.

Heritage Park, located adjacent to Marley Park Elementary School at 15042 West Sweetwater Road, was developed by Marley Park LLC, an affiliate of Scottsdale-based DMB Associates Inc. (DMB). The land for the park was donated to the city of Surprise by the Kemper and Ethel Marley Foundation. The city of Surprise Community and Recreation Services Department will assume responsibility for operations and event programming.

“Heritage park is the jewel of our community’s parks and Arbor Walk system. Open spaces that invite community involvement are central to the design of Marley Park, and we’re pleased to share Heritage Park with the greater Surprise community,” said Paula Randolph, director of community operations for Marley Park. “It’s wonderful to see Heritage Park come alive as a vibrant center for community recreation, where people of all ages and interests can interact with family and friends, participate in community events and have a good time.”

The northern section of Heritage Park, a hub of activity and play, includes two baseball fields, an adventure playground for young children and a plaza for community events. The southern section, centered on the arts, includes an open-air amphitheater with a gazebo stage and seating for 1,600 spectators, a community rose garden honoring the roots of Marley Park and an open field for playful activity.

“Heritage Park complements our existing recreational offerings and provides a venue to expand community programming,” said Surprise Director of Community and Recreation Services Mark Coronado. “The entire community of Surprise will benefit from increased opportunities for sports, musical and cultural programming.”

The Arizona home development, Marley Park, is designed to be a classically styled community celebrating the most valued characteristics of historic neighborhoods. Taking its cues from the area’s rich agrarian history, the community of Marley Park in emphasizes open spaces, shade trees and diverse and traditional architecture. Theme Park Queues Just Got Fun

Theme Park Queues Just Got Fun

The Book and the iPhone App

(PRWEB) December 1, 2010

There’s no doubt that queuing is the tedious part of a theme park visit. However there are now some new products which specifically target the boredom of those long zigzagging lines.

Things to Do In Theme Park Queues comes as a book or iPhone app and contains more than 120 activities that can be played in the crowded queuing conditions of any busy theme park.

The award winning author, Scott Wegener, lives in Melbourne, Australia, which is a long way from any theme park with a long queue, but suggests that it may be the reason these products came to be.

“Writing these activities helped me feed the cravings I have between visits to large theme parks, like Disneyland,” he says. “I love thinking about theme parks and this gave me an excuse to constantly picture myself in the queues of my favourite park attractions. I’d play out the ideas that came to mind of how I’d entertain myself and the friends I’d imaginarily taken to the park with me.”

Being an only child may have helped develop Scott’s creativeness for generating entertainment.

“I can’t recall the last time I was bored,” he muses.

” I’ve never personally had any difficulty in entertaining myself in any situation, alone or with friends. Hopefully these products will help those who have to visit theme parks at peak times to endure, if not enjoy, the queuing experience. They’ll have this large collection of ideas of what someone who doesn’t get bored would do in their situation.”

As well as the categorised activities, the book and iPhone app also contain many tips for a theme park visit, such as how to avoid queues, packing checklist, and how to conquer a fear of roller coasters. There’s also a large roller coaster trivia section, which includes things like attendance figures, historic milestones, lists of record-holding coasters and enough definitions of coaster inversions to send anyone loopy.

Scott suggests that if half the day at an amusement park is spent in queues, you can double the enjoyment of your theme park visit by making the queues fun too.

“I guess my ultimate aim could be to make the queuing more fun than the attraction,” he says.

“Can you imagine having people sitting on the attraction waiting eagerly to join the next queue? In respect for the large amount of money spent on attractions, I’ve made sure the activities are just a little less exciting than the attractions being queued for.”

For more information about these products, visit http://www.ThemeParkQueues.com

TEA & AECOM Release 2010 Global Theme Park Attendance Numbers

TEA & AECOM Release 2010 Global Theme Park Attendance Numbers

The TEA/AECOM 2010 Theme Index – the annuaol Global Attractions Attendance Report – has been released by the Themed Entertainment Association and AECOM.

Burbank, California USA (PRWEB) June 20, 2011

“The Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) and Economics at AECOM have released their joint publication, the TEA/AECOM 2010 Theme Index – the definitive annual study of attendance at major theme parks, amusement parks and waterparks around the globe,” announced Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) president Rick Rothschild of FAR Out! Creative Direction. “Looking at 2010 performance, the figures portray the resurgence of destination parks. Both Disney and Universal brought visitors back to their turnstiles with irresistible new attractions – World of Color (Disney California Adventure in Anaheim) and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter (Universal Studios Orlando). These two outstanding attractions – both honored by TEA with Thea Awards – stand as symbols of the resilience and recovery of the international themed entertainment industry.”

The full report can be viewed and downloaded from the AECOM website or the TEA website.

Returning to pre-recession levels in US & Europe

“Both residents and tourists are coming back to the parks,” confirmed John Robinett, Senior Vice President, Economics at AECOM. “The 2010 TEA/AECOM Theme Index reveals an average attendance increase of 1.8% in North American parks, with many sectors at or close to pre-recession levels. The trend was generally positive. Both Universal and Disney parks reaped the rewards of substantial reinvestment, with outstanding new attractions in Orlando and Los Angeles. Orlando saw regional tourism grow by 10.5 and preliminary estimates indicate 8% in Los Angeles.”

“Despite the recession, European theme parks turned in a pretty strong performance in regard to attendance,” said David Camp, Vice President for AECOM in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. “In most cases, parks in Europe are back to where they were two years ago: The totals for 2008 and 2010 are about the same.”

Asia bounces back; Chinese tourism drives development

“The recession appears to be officially over in Asia,” reported Chris Yoshii, Global Director Economics Asia. “2010 was a solid bounce-back from ’09. China and South Korea exhibited the strongest growth, helped by a surge of visitors from mainland China.”

Disney parks in Asia prospered in 2010. “The attendance increase at Disney parks in Japan and Hong Kong (800,000 and 600,000 increase respectively) can be attributed to three things: increased tourism from China, aggressive marketing and new attractions,” said Chris Yoshii. “The growth of the middle class in Asia is phenomenal and will drive huge investments in theme parks in the coming decade.”

Ocean Park Hong Kong posted a record year in terms of attendance: 5.1 million visits, and Universal Studios Singapore, which held its grand opening in May 2011, tallied more than 2 million visits during its 9-month soft-open period in 2010.

Visitation totals for 2011 will likely suffer at the Tokyo Disney parks, which closed for one month due to the earthquake and subsequent disruptions in Fukushima.

Waterparks – growth, and room for more

In US waterparks, “Attendance at the top five declined somewhat, but overall attendance at the top 20 was up by over one million visitors,” said Brian Sands, Vice President, AICP, Economics at AECOM. “The largest portion of this increase was from the new Wet N’ Wild in Phoenix, Arizona, opened for its first full year in 2010.”

Theme park development in the Mideast is largely dormant with the exception of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, which opened in October and is the largest indoor theme park in the world. But two Dubai waterparks, Aquaventure and Wild Wadi, appear on the Top 20 Worldwide Waterparks list for 2010. “Waterparks are a natural leisure solution for a hot-weather region,” noted David Camp.

Waterparks in Asia also did well. In South Korea, Caribbean Bay at Everland posted a very good 2010 with a 20 percent uptick in attendance. “Jakarta is emerging as a new market, with a lot of interest in waterparks as well as theme parks and indoor attractions,” said Chris Yoshii.

Latin America & Mexico – Brazil leads

“The addition of Parque Mundo Aventura in Bogota, Columbia to the reporting list increased visitation by nearly one million for the top ten theme parks in Mexico-Latin America,” said Brian Sands. “However, Hopi Hari in Sao Paulo, Brazil, had the biggest increase among parks reporting in previous years, with close to 500,000 additional visitors, driven by a combination of the opening of several major new rides plus very strong economic growth in Brazil.”

Key Figures from the TEA/AECOM 2010 Theme Index – Calendar year 2010

189.1 million: The total theme park attendance for top 25 worldwide parks, an increase of 1.9 percent from 2009

123.6 million: Total visits to the top 20 theme parks in North America, an increase of 1.8 percent from 2009

83.3 million: Total visits to the top 15 Asian theme parks up 7.3 percent from 2009

56.3 million: Attendance for the top 20 European theme parks, a decrease of 1.8 percent from 2009 numbers

22.2 million: Top 20 worldwide waterparks attendance in 2010 – an increase of 7.3 percent from 2009. (Since 2006, total attendance for top 20 worldwide waterparks has grown by 27.4 percent.)

15.1 million: Total visitation to the top 20 waterparks in the US, a growth of 2.9 percent from 2009

13.3 million: Total attendance for the top 10 theme parks in Mexico and Latin America up 8.2 percent from 2009. (Total attendance for top 10 Mexico and Latin America theme parks has grown by 20.5 percent since 2006.)

About the TEA/AECOM 2010 Theme Index

The 2010 TEA/AECOM Theme Index identifies the top commercial theme parks and waterparks around the world and reflects their performance for the calendar year. Global attendance data are broken down by geographic region, by chain and by type of venue. The report is a valuable business reference and resource for the visitor attractions industry.

This annual, global attractions attendance study is jointly produced and distributed by the TEA (Themed Entertainment Association) – the leading international trade alliance for the creators of compelling experiences and places – and the Economics practice at AECOM, formerly Economics Research Associates (ERA) – a top international consulting firm providing economic analysis for the entertainment and leisure industry worldwide.

AECOM obtains the figures used to create the TEA/AECOM Theme Index through a variety of sources, including statistics furnished directly by theme park operators, historical numbers, financial reports, the investment banking community and local tourism organizations, among others. The global market is studied as a whole, and each of its four main regions is also studied separately: North America, Mexico/Latin America, Europe and Asia. There is also a table of the top waterparks in the world and in the United States, and of the top global chain operators.

Disaster! A Major Motion Picture Ride? Starring You! Opens Today at Universal Orlando Resort

Disaster! A Major Motion Picture Ride… Starring You! Opens Today at Universal Orlando Resort

Orlando, Fla. (PRWEB) January 28, 2008

Disaster! A Major Motion Picture Ride…Starring You! opens today at Universal Studios Florida. The new attraction features the first-ever use by a theme park of a high-tech virtual imagery technology called “Musion” and a special appearance by Hollywood actor Dwayne Johnson.

The Disaster! ride replaces Earthquake and combines the best, most dramatic elements of Earthquake with an all-new storyline, top name celebrities, new “Musion” technology and all-new interactive elements. Park guests enter “Disaster Studios” and become part of the production action surrounding a “major motion picture.”

Johnson was at Universal Studios Thursday for the opening of the new attraction. In the attraction, Johnson plays a film hero who helps “save the day.”

Musion technology is a unique high-definition video projection system that transforms two-dimensional images into what seem to be live three-dimensional images. The Musion set in place at the Disaster! ride is the first-ever use of the technology by a theme park and the largest permanent installation of that technology ever. Universal uses Musion technology to bring Disaster Studio Director “Frank Kincaid” to life as he explains the passion behind his work and recruits guests to take part in his next picture.

“The use of Musion technology in this attraction allows us to blend illusion with reality to surprise and entertain our guests,” said Mark Woodbury, president of Universal Creative for Universal Parks and Resorts. “They are amazed by the effects we have created.”

Throughout the 15-minute attraction experience, guests are filmed as extras for different elements of Disaster Studios’ newest blockbuster film, “Mutha Nature,” taking direction from Frank Kinkaid and his production assistants. In the end, they are able to see the results of their work in a tongue-in-cheek trailer for the film, starring Johnson. Disaster! A Major Motion Picture Ride…Starring You! is located in the San Fransisco area of Universal Studios Florida.

Dwayne Johnson is best known for his roles in Universal Pictures’ The Mummy Returns, The Scorpion King and, most recently, The Game Plan. Now a firmly established presence in Hollywood, he can be seen in the upcoming Warner Brother’s comedy GET SMART opening in theaters June 20, 2008. Johnson is currently filming the family comedy Witch Mountain scheduled to be released in the summer of 2009.

Universal Orlando Resort – With Steven Spielberg as creative consultant, Universal Orlando has created some of the world’s most innovative theme park attractions based on pop culture’s most compelling films and stories.

Families will experience two world-class theme parks – Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure – a nighttime entertainment complex and magnificently themed on-site hotels. Universal Studios is a working film and TV production studio as well as a highly acclaimed motion picture and television theme park featuring attractions such as “Revenge of the Mummy–The Ride” and “Shrek 4-D.” Islands of Adventure is the world’s most technologically advanced theme park and features five uniquely themed islands that include Seuss Landing, Marvel Super Hero Island and Jurassic Park. Its marquee attractions include “Jurassic Park River Adventure” and “The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man.”

In addition to its theme parks, Universal Orlando Resort also includes CityWalk, a 30-acre nighttime entertainment complex that features restaurants, shops, clubs, a 20-screen cineplex and live-entertainment. The destination’s three on-site Loews hotels include the Portofino Bay Hotel, the Hard Rock Hotel and the Royal Pacific Resort. http://www.universalorlando.com
